WGIC Releases Policy Reports on Metaverse, DEI and PPP

The three policy reports address critical aspects of the geospatial industry's evolving role in a rapidly changing world. The first, "Bringing Geospatial Context to the Metaverse," delves into integrating geospatial tech into the metaverse. The second report, "Leadership Diversity in Geospatial Industry," highlights the significance of fostering diverse leadership within the geospatial sector. Survey to Improve Industry-Academia Collaboration

The widening gap between student skills and the industry needs in the geospatial sector, amidst rapid technology advancements such as AI/ML and modern sensors, is a cause for concern. WGIC Industry/Academia Committee is conducting a survey of inventory (technology, training, etc.) and industry opportunities available to students and recent graduates. WGIC hosted the DEI Trailblazer Awards 2023 ceremony to celebrate and recognize individuals and organizations making stellar contributions to advancing DEI in the geospatial sector. This year's awardees included Olivia Powell (DEI Individual Champion Award) and EVONA (DEI Corporate Impact Award) for their notable efforts in fostering DEI within the geospatial industry. WGIC Supports GEO 2023 Cape Town Declaration and Post–2025 Strategy

During the recent Ministerial Summit organized by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), WGIC supported its GEO 2023 Cape Town Declaration and Post–2025 strategy. Aaron Addison, WGIC Executive Director, underscored the significance of collaboration across various sectors, including public, private, academia, civil society, and indigenous communities and organizations. Addison reaffirmed WGIC's dedication to fostering these collaborations by stating, “WGIC, on behalf of our members, is committed to playing its part in building these stronger partnerships and collaborative mechanisms with each of you as we breathe collective life into the GEO 2023 Cape Town Declaration and Post–2025 strategy."
