The Hague, The Netherlands, July 1, 2022 – The World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) is pleased to announce the launch of the WGIC Trailblazer Awards, aimed at recognizing and celebrating the pioneering work of individuals, organizations and institutions, working for the geospatial ecosystem.
WGIC DEI Trailblazer Awards 2022 – The first in the series
The first in the series of WGIC Trailblazer Awards is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). It is recognized that experiences and innovations that drive the development of creative solutions to the world’s challenges require DEI.
Through the WGIC DEI Trailblazer Awards 2022, WGIC will acknowledge and celebrate exemplary leadership in advancing DEI with demonstrable positive outcomes in the geospatial community. Through these awards and their success stories, WGIC aims to inspire the larger community to move from awareness to action. The diversity dimensions covered in this year’s awards include, but are not limited to, race, gender, ethnicity, age, belief system, disability status, gender, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.

WGIC DEI Trailblazer 2022 – Individual Champion
The WGIC DEI Trailblazer 2022 – Individual Champion Award recognizes geospatial professionals committed to the cause of DEI. This award category calls for nominations from individuals who approach leadership through a holistic lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and demonstrate solid commitment to advancing the awareness and knowledge of DEI within the broader community.

WGIC DEI Trailblazer 2022 – Corporate Impact
The WGIC DEI Trailblazer 2022 – Corporate Impact award recognizes geospatial companies and organizations that make significant efforts to promote and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in their workplace. This award acknowledges company-wide initiatives established and implemented to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the leadership and employee base of WGIC member companies. For 2022, the nominations under this category are open only to WGIC member companies. The WGIC Secretariat will solicit nominations from all its members.

- October 20, 2022: Presentation of awards at INTERGEO 2022 in Essen, Germany
