WGIC Contributes To Industry-wide Conversations At Geo Week 2026

WGIC at Geo Week 2026

WGIC took an active part in Geo Week 2026 through a series of engagements that brought members, partners, and the wider geospatial community together around innovation, automation, and workforce development. WGIC convened two roundtables — Data to Decisions and Building the Next Geospatial Workforce — alongside two sessions, The Next Decade of Geospatial Innovation and Tracking the Talent, while maintaining strong engagement at the WGIC booth throughout the event.

Across these discussions, a clear industry shift emerged: the geospatial sector is moving beyond experimentation toward operational impact. Sessions examined how AI and automation are increasingly embedded in production workflows, with attention turning to interoperability, governance, and trust as key factors in ensuring that insights move across systems and inform real-world decisions rather than remaining analytical outputs. The conversations reflected a growing focus on implementation, moving from innovation and experimentation toward scalable, decision-driven use of geospatial data.

At the same time, workforce-focused discussions addressed how the skills landscape is evolving alongside these technological changes. Themes included the increasing importance of communication alongside technical expertise, the need for hands-on and applied learning, and the value of curiosity and learning agility in a rapidly changing field. Discussions also pointed to the need for more intentional pathways into geospatial careers and stronger alignment between academia, industry, and professional networks to attract, prepare, and retain future talent.

On the sidelines of Geo Week, WGIC convened its Members and Board Meetings to discuss priorities for the year ahead and strengthen collaboration across our global network. We thank our members and board representatives for the constructive exchange—and to everyone who connected with the WGIC team during the week.

Strong engagement at WGIC’s booth and sessions highlighted the growing role of geospatial technologies in supporting data-driven decision-making and industry collaboration.
