The Hague, The Netherlands, October 25, 2023: The World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) is pleased to announce the release of its report titled Africa Geospatial Public-Private Partnerships: Business and Financial Considerations.”

The policy report, released at WGIC’s recent board meeting organized on the sidelines of INTERGEO 2023, demonstrates that there are indeed strong needs and compelling stories for developing and supporting geospatial infrastructure and Earth observation (EO) sectors with public-private partnerships (PPPs) in Africa.

The report includes the Africa Geospatial PPP Readiness Index, which ranks fifty-three African nations based on the strength of the enabling geospatial business conditions in these countries. It furnishes a number of business tools for developing mature geospatial PPPs in Africa. Further, the report facilitates detailed guidance on the steps involved in developing an effective geospatial PPP in Africa.

Willy Govender, WGIC PPP Committee Chair and CEO, Terra Analytics, expressing his delight over the release of the report, said, “Building on the initial report produced by the WGIC PPP Committee, we felt it pertinent as a next step, to develop the necessary tools for implementing successful PPPs in the geospatial industry. The Committee chose the African continent to understand the potential for PPPs and the demand for geospatial and Earth observation technologies to solve its challenges. With this report, we intend to provide the geospatial stakeholders with a toolkit to evaluate the risks and business models when undertaking PPP considerations and guide those implementations to achieve success for all the parties involved.”

Albert Anoubon Momo, WGIC PPP Committee Member and Vice President and Executive Director, Trimble, said, “Public-private partnerships in geospatial projects should have a transformative impact by driving innovation, sustainable development, and unlocking Africa’s untapped potential. This report is a step towards a brighter future for the continent.”
