WGIC Horizons newsletter

Dear Readers,

While this Newsletter is aimed to look back at last quarter’s activities by World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) Members, Partners and the Secretariat, I would like to draw your attention to some exciting news that’s in the pipeline. The Group on Earth Observations (GEO), on behalf of the public sector, and WGIC, on behalf of the private sector, are jointly undertaking a survey on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Monitoring Capabilities from Space. The result will be an inventory of Earth observation satellites and their capabilities to monitor GHG Emissions. If you are a commercial Earth observation company with GHG Emission (CH4, CO2, N2O, and O3) monitoring capabilities, please write to us at https://wgicouncil.org/contact/

This endeavour neatly coincides with WGIC’s Climate Action umbrella, under which we run our Working Groups on Disaster Resilience, Energy Transition, and Sustainable Infrastructure. This is a good time to let all WGIC members know that we need your expertise and passion to advance these Working Groups, and the impact they can make on behalf of the geospatial industry with our partners, and society at large. What’s in it for your company? You will directly engage with client groups and help create an understanding of societal issues where your business could contribute to solutions, in close collaboration with other industry partners. Our Partnership and Industry Engagement Committee Members are also chairing the three Working Groups to ensure we have full strategic alignment across WGIC’s programs. Please forward this message to your colleagues to join the effort!

With my best regards,

Barbara J. Ryan
Executive Director
WGIC
