Technology Company of the Year – Oracle
Oracle is recognized as the Technology Company of the Year for decades of supporting multiple data models, algorithms, and workload types in its database architecture, promoting spatial data democratization. At the end of the year 2019, Oracle announced extending spatial capabilities across all editions of Oracle Database.
Oracle’s leadership team Steven Hagan, Jim Steiner, Jayant Sharma, Siva Ravada, and many others have been working closely with the global geospatial community to ensure that the benefits of their robust database technology with spatial analytics, automation, and AI capabilities are reaching the right stakeholders and enabling many mission-critical applications and workflows across various industries. We are proud to have such a great company as our founding member and their leaders as part of WGIC’s Patron and Executive Board.

Making a Difference – Science and Public Policy Award, Stefan Schweinfest
Stefan Schweinfest got the ‘Making a Difference – Science and Public Policy Award’ for promoting inclusivity in global geospatial information management, leading to the recognition of geospatial technologies being key to developing a sustainable planet.
The United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) is now a very pivotal organization that helps the geospatial community and industry have a voice at the UN. Mr. Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations’ Statistics Division, has played a crucial role in the negotiations that lead to the formation of UN-GGIM. Under his leadership, UN-GGIM has also completed ten years.

Lifetime Achievement Award – Mark Reichardt, OGC
Mark Reichardt, Former President, and CEO, Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), was bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Reichardt got this award for playing a fundamental role in bringing together diverse communities to the table for the cause of open geospatial standards, driving the Open Geospatial Consortium into a truly global organization. His relentless and tireless work towards building awareness and consensus towards open geospatial standards has helped the world realize the value and benefits of interoperable geospatial technologies.
