American Meteorological Society: 103rd AMS Annual Meeting

At the 103rd American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting (AMS 2023) in Denver, Barbara Ryan, WGIC Executive Director, joined the panel discussion on the future of Earth observation. The panel reflected on all that has been achieved and what values and strategies will guide us into the coming decades of Earth observation coordination. 

Some of the key points that the WGIC Executive Director highlighted were 

• The impact of the federal government’s open data policy,
• Public Private Partnerships (PPPs),
• WGIC’s role in increasing awareness of the private sector’s capabilities.

The private sector has the capability to provide the data, tools, services, and products that could help people start to solve these problems, but first, they need to know that those tools, data, and services exist. This is where WGIC is serving its members by bringing greater visibility to what they offer to society and the global economy, which is also WGIC’s first strategic goal.
