World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) is pleased to announce that Fugro has joined the council for the year 2020 as a Corporate Member. The World Geospatial Industry Council [WGIC] and The European Global Navigation Satellite System Agency – (European GNSS Agency – GSA), signed a memorandum to collectively work towards bringing forward composite value and utility of geospatial technology and satellite navigation systems in the success of projects across a wide range of activities, from sustainable development to innovative opportunities that benefit citizens, enterprises and for the attainment of the global development agendas, including the SDGs.
At a Panel discussion held during the 9th meeting of the United Nations Global Geographic Information Management (UN-GGIM), the World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) and its Policy Committee briefed Member Countries, the UN-GGIM Private Sector Network (PSN) and other observers on progress to date, surveying existing regulations and legislation governing geo-location and personal privacy in selected jurisdictions around the world.
WGIC Secretary General and CEO – Sanjay Kumar Appointed as a Member of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC)
The National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC), a Federal Advisory committee authorized under the Geospatial Data Act of 2018 and sponsored by the Department of the Interior, provides advice and recommendations related to the management of Federal and national geospatial programs, the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), and implementation of the Geospatial Data Act (GDA) of 2018. The NSDI promotes geospatial data sharing across all levels of government, the private and non-profit sectors, and the academic community.
Collaboration between WGIC and UNSD, marks a new milestone for strengthening global geospatial information ecosystem
Geospatial World Forum 2019, bringing together more than a thousand industry thought leaders from over 75 countries in Amsterdam, had a great start in the evening even before the opening day. The World Geospatial Industry Council [WGIC] and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), Secretariat for the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), signed an agreement to collaborate and work towards demonstrating the comprehensive value and utility of geospatial knowledge and data systems as core enablers for attainment of the global development agendas, including the SDGs.
The Annual General Meeting of the World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC), was held on April 1, 2019 in Amsterdam. With 21 co-founders during the first formal meeting post launch of WGIC in July, 2018, the council has inducted another 21 members.
On the eve of Geospatial World Forum, World Geospatial Industry Council [WGIC] and International Telecommunication Union [ITU] announced their partnership to work together for making Information and Communication technologies available to all. It is a great opportunity for two major organizations to bring their respective areas of work together to create a better-connected world for all of its people.
